Legal Assistant
Michel’s practice focuses on real estate law, particularly co-ownership law, as well as administrative law. He also works in civil and commercial litigation.
Michel has pleaded before all civil courts and several administrative tribunals in Quebec. He has appeared four times before the Supreme Court of Canada, in particular on the Reference re Secession of Quebec and twice as a lawyer of the Barreau du Québec in cases related to litigation privilege and the unauthorized practice of law. He was awarded the Barreau du Québec’s Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E) distinction for the year 2023, a distinction given to lawyers with an outstanding professional career whose contribution to the profession and social and community outreach are worthy of recognition.
A specialist with 35 years of experience in co-ownership law, he has encountered every type of contentious co-ownership situation. He focuses his work on resolving these disputes rather than resorting to the courts. He also believes in alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration.
He has developed the co-ownership law in Quebec through his involvement with co-ownership syndicates, training on co-ownership and advice in specialized magazines and newspapers in the province of Quebec.
Michel was a representative of the Barreau du Québec on the Task Force and Advisory Committee of the Reform of Co-Ownership Law, which resulted in the Bill 16 of 2019, a major reform of the legal framework for co-ownership in Quebec.
Sensitive to issues of integration of minorities in law firms, he leads TCJ’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
He is one of the founders of the Centre de médiation et d’arbitrage en copropriété (CMAC), where he acts as mediator and arbitrator along with ten other professionals specializing in co-ownership law.
